Introducction:

Welcome to Buenos Aires! One of the big cosmopolitan cities in America Latina; a passionate city, full of life and intensity and strong contrasts, where the traditional and the modern live together.

Known as “The Plata’s Queen”, Buenos Aires is a cheerful city with a wide cultural offer, delicious gastronomy and surprising spots.

¿What to visit?

There’s a long list of reasons to visit Buenos Aires: picturesque neighbourhoods, museums, numerous parks and countless attractive spots to visit.

The most important historical locations are Plaza de Mayo (the oldest square and foundational place of the city), the City Hall, the Metropolitan Cathedral and the Pink House, where the national executive power is based in.

The most visited neighbourhoods are La Boca with the famous “Caminito”, a place full of life and colours; San Telmo, one of the oldest neighbourhoods, traditional and Bohemian; Recoleta, the fancy neighbourhood where the Recoleta’s Cemetary is located and that’s also attractive because of its architecture; Palermo, a great place for eating, shopping and enjoying green areas; Puerto Madero, modern and exclusive, a neighbourhood that’s located over the edge of the La Plata River, a great place to visit at any hour and with a wide gastronomical offer.

Buenos Aires also offers variety of museums of national and international art, such as the Museum of Fine Arts, the Museum of Latinoamerican Art, the Museum of the City and the Evita Museum among others. Once a year the city celebrates the “Night of the Museums” – A special event when the museums open until dawn and offer free activities for all ages and preferences.

Another interesting places to visit ar the Colón Theatre, the Obelisc, the Block of Lights and the Planetarium.

The most representative symbol of Buenos Aires is Tango, recognized as World Cultural Heritage by UNESCO, a musical style that’s the product of a mix between different cultures. You can enjoy tango shows at a lot of places in the city, including street shows at the main touristic spots.

There are also options to get in touch with nature in the surroundings of Buenos Aires. One of the most chosen tours is the visit to Tigre, where colonial manor houses, rowing clubs and craft shops abound. Tigre also has a fluvial station – From here, you can achieve an unique natural world: the Delta of the Paraná River.

Another option is to spend a country day in the “Fiestas Gauchas”, traditional activities that take place at a farm where you can enjoy folk shows and the typical Argentinian asado.

¿The weather and when to travel?

The four seasons are well-defined: winters are cold with temperatures that might reach 0°C; spring and autumn are pleasant, with ideal temperatures for walking; summers are wet and temperatures are sometimes over 35°C. You could say that Buenos Aires can be visited at any time of the year.

The main access gate to Buenos Aires from foreign countries is the Ezeiza International Aiport – Domestic flights, on the other hand, arrive at Jorge Newbery Airport. By waterway, Buenos Aires is connected with Uruguay through ships and transbordadors.

The gastronomy of Buenos Aires is based in the essence of the immigrants that lived in the city during the XIX century. The main typical dishes are asado, empanadas, locro and puchero (two different kinds of stew), alfajores, pastelitos (fried pastries) and tortas fritas.

Buenos Aires is a city that never sleeps. On the famous Corrientes Avenue you can find the main theatres, the best pizza shops and lots of bookstores. Palermo and San Telmo offer bars, terraces, breweries and discos where young people and adults find entertainment during the whole week. Puerto Madero, on the other hand, is a great place to have dinner with views of the dikes.
