Full Itinerary:

DAY 1: Arrival at the airport and transfer to the hotel. Acommodation.

DAY 2: Península Valdés Tour. Pick up at the hotel. The tour starts early in the morning towards the Valdés Peninsula Provincial Reserve, Protected Natural Area, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1999. Pick up at the hotel. A few kilometers away from the Post stands the Ameghino Isthmus Interpretation Center. The Isthmus is a strip of land 6 km wide, which connects the Valdés Peninsula with the province of Chubut. It is a strategic place to observe the two gulfs that bathe its coasts, the San José gulf to the north and the Nuevo gulf to the south. Inside there is an exhibition of the fauna, flora, geology and history of the area.

The Island of the Birds is a small island located near the coast of the Carlos Ameghino Isthmus. On the coast there is a viewpoint that allows you to see the island and its fauna. There is also a wildlife guard service that provides information about the fauna and flora of the area.

Fort San José was located on the nearby coast of the Ameghino Isthmus, a Spanish colonization attempt destroyed in 1810.

After about an hour of travel you arrive at Puerto Pirámides, where you embark for the traditional whale watching (optional), between the months of June and December. Once the sighting is finished, passengers will have time to lunch (optional). In time to coordinate with the guide, the journey continues and enters the Valdés Peninsula.

In the route (gravel roads) you can observe the most varied type of wildlife: guanacos, mulitas, choiques, maras, foxes, birds. The center road is taken to go to the Caleta Valdés Provincial Reserve, a reserve since 1983. This strip of land is composed of boulder, earth and sand and encloses a portion of the sea connected through a small mouth with the Argentinian Sea. In some months of the year (between August and April) it is used by southern elephant seals, given its protection from the sea and winds, becoming one of the few continental sidings of this species

The tour continues until we reach the Punta Delgada lighthouse area. After that the tour starts the return journey - On our way back, you will be able to spot the Salinas Grandes and Salinas Chica, a temporary lagoon that, when dried, created salt flats of medium size. It is 42 m below sea level, being the lowest point of that province and one of the lowest points in Argentina.

IMPORTANT – The tour changes on estival season: Puerto Madryn, Ameghino Isthmus, Punta Norte, Caleta Valdés, Puerto Pirámides and return to Puerto Madryn. The Punta Norte Reserve is located in the San Matías gulf. Here you can find sea lions, sea elephants, Magellanic penguins, spikes and killer whales. It is during this period that the killer whales appear. It is about coordinating the visit to the reserve when there is high tide.

DAY 3: Early in the morning we will start the journey towards the Punta Tombo Reserve. This protected area was created in 1972 and declared a protected natural area in 1985. It is the largest colony of Magellan penguins on continental land, reaching more than one million copies at its peak. You will be able to walk more than a kilometer of paths between caves and nests of these birds.

DAY 4: Breakfast and transfer to the hotel.

At Puerto Madryn you can replace the classic full-day tour to Punta Tombo Reserve with a half-day visit to the Estancia San Lorenzo Penguin Colony, to be taken on the same day as Valdés Peninsula Tour. Thereby, on the second day you will be able to take a city tour that includes a visit to the “Ecocentro” and also to Punta Loma, a sea lions colony. Important: this package has an additional cost and includes admissions to Estancia San Lorenzo and to the “Ecocentro”, but it doesn’t include admissions to Punta Loma.

OTHER NOTES:

• Valdés Peninsula Tour: the order of the tour may change according to weather conditions. If a part of the route isn’t covered because of climatic conditions, no refund will be applicable. / The Punta Delgada Lighthouse Country Hotel, as it is private property, allows access only to passengers who take lunch there. / If the passengers can’t navigate because of bad weather conditions, they will be given a note so that they can make the corresponding claim for refund as long as they had the navigation included. If they can return to Puerto Pirámides to sail the next day (or when the weather permits), they must pay the cost of the transfer. / Admissions are not included / This tour has an estimated duration of 10 hours.
• Punta Tombo Tour: Reservations from mid-September to mid-April. / If a part of the route isn’t covered because of climatic conditions, no refund will be aplicable. / This tour could be taken with the transfer in, depending on your arrival hour – Check terms and conditions. / The passengers will be at Punta Tombo Reserve during lunch time – The only gastronomic option is the confectionery of the place, not included. / This tour has an estimated duration of 10 hours.
